Chief Brown among us: Yesterday morning the citizens of Carson were startled by a sound in the vicinity of the Ormsby House, which suggested the rolling of a dozen Saratoga trunks down the back stairs of a nine story hotel. It was Kittle Belly Brown, the Chief Engineer of the Virginia City fire department. The celebrated chief is here for the purpose of persuading the legislature to make it a felony to address a fire Jakey without prefixing the title of Honorable to his name, and he carries a big sack to back up his bid.

Nearly half the town is knocked out with La grippe. Mr. Belcobe, the jeweler, is confined to his room; Professor Blonchet is also a victim and a number of the legislators are included in the list.
