Brothers Chad and Richard Shroy posted two of the fastest individual times of the day to provide highlights for Carson High at the season-opening Douglas Class Races held on Friday in Gardnerville.
Chad Shroy ran to second-place in the senior race with a time of 13 minutes, six seconds over the 2.47-course course, while Richard Shroy won the freshman race in 13:29 over the same route during competition at Lampe Park. Chad finished second in his race by three seconds behind Elko's Kyle Alegria in a race between two of Northern Nevada's top returnees from 2005 (Shroy placed fifth and Alegria sixth at last year's regional championships).
Richard Shroy's time was only 23 seconds behind his brother and ranked among the top 10 overall for the day out of the senior, junior, sophomore and freshman races). Galena's Bryan Tibaduiza won the sophomore race in 13:15.
Also for Carson, Nick Schlager placed second in the freshman race with a time of 14:15 and Jared Mondragon was 12th in 15:21. In the junior race, Caleb Carter ran 14:05 to place seventh and Ethan Graber 14:17 to place ninth. In the sophomore race, Mark Neddenriep ran 15:13 to place ninth and Andrew Richards ran 16:58 to place 32nd. Andrew Stevenson also ran 15:08 to finish 18th in the senior race.
A total of 82 seconds separated Carson's five fastest boys.
Carson's girls were also bunched closely in their races. Gloria Sosa turned the fastest time for the girls, a 17:09 effort that was good for 37th overall in the junior race (girls and boys combined), while Jenny Mital ran 17:17 to place 34th overall in the sophomore race, Meagan Meyer ran 17:38 to place 33rd overall in the senior race and Kelli Brothers 20:41 to place 67th in the junior race.
The Senators run again next Friday at the Reed Invitational in Sparks.
