Vegas hospital could lose federal funding

LAS VEGAS " A Las Vegas hospital is in danger of losing Medicare and Medicaid funding after state health inspectors reported finding blood on the floor of a lab, an assistant handling equipment with bloody gloves and no system to track whether patients picked up infections from certain medical procedures.

MountainView Hospital has submitted a plan to correct the problems that could cost it federal reimbursements tied to the government's health care plans for seniors, poor and disabled people.

Inspectors say the hospital faces an unannounced inspection during the coming months that will determine whether problems have been fixed.

Hospital officials say they feel the incidents were isolated. They say they have added more checks to ensure practices are consistent.
