Carson City's community outreach coordinator will appear in court on Nov. 18 for arraignment on charges of extortion, robbery, possession of stolen property and destruction of property.

Javier Ramirez, 38, posted his $47,500 bail about 2 a.m. Thursday morning, 12 hours after he was arrested in a sting operation set up by the Carson City Sheriff's Department between Ramirez and the alleged victim.

The victim, whose name has not been released, told police she had borrowed $3,000 from Ramirez two years prior, and ever since then Ramirez had been stalking and harassing her for payment.

The arrest report indicates that in addition to the alleged stalking, Ramirez allegedly stole the victim's purse from her as she walked through a parking lot, slashed her tires, told her she would have to have sex with him in exchange for payment and would not return her property to her until she gave him money.

Ramirez, Carson City's community outreach and community block grant coordinator since 2006, did not return calls to his home and cell phone Thursday.

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said the investigation into the allegations against Ramirez are ongoing.
