The Greenwave wrestling team recorded another third-place finish as Fallon traveled to California for a regional showdown.

After taking third at the Sparks Invitational to open the month, Fallon traveled to Lassen, Calif., for Battle of the Border last weekend. The Greenwave placed nine wrestlers, including two champions, as they finished third.

“I really felt we competed well,” Fallon coach Mitch Overlie said. “The seniors really stepped up and the super sophomores looked strong.”

Sophomore Sam Goings (138 pounds) and senior Dakota Schelling (170) each won their respective weight class. Goings also won last week’s Sparks tournament and was voted by the coaches as the most outstanding wrestler.

Trae Workman (145) and Ricky Rogers (heavyweight) each took second, and Clay Amezquita (126) finished third. Robert White (138) nabbed fourth, Anthony Sabatino (126) took fifth, and Dustin McAfee (113) and Terry White (106) each finished sixth.

Fallon travels to Spring Creek on Friday for a two-day tournament that will feature a bulk of the Northern Division I-A schools. Fernley will host the next tournament in two weeks to close out the month.

“We are looking forward to this week as we step up the competition for the end of the year,” Overlie said.
