The Fallon Bowmen archery team is hosting the 36th annual R.A.M. 3-D Archery Tournament this weekend near Diversion Dam.

The River Animal Madness is a two-day marked yardage event that begins with a 7 a.m. registration on Saturday and an 8 a.m. shotgun start on each day.

Hunter Mori, who spoke before the Churchill County commissioners at their meeting last week, said the tournament is expecting upward to 400 shooters. The commissioners approved a check for $1,500 to assist the Fallon Bowmen with their tournament and other activities.

Mori said recreation archery has been increasing for participants from Northern California, Nevada and Idaho and added local interest has attracted 60 to 70 members. The Fallon Bowmen continue to attract archers from both the adult and youth ranks.

“About 60% of our membership are families, and 40% are individuals,” Mori said.

Additionally, the high school offers archery in the physical education program.

County Manager Jim Barbee suggested to Mori that the archery club contact the Nevada Department of Wildlife to learn of activities and money available for activities such as archery.

“Eureka, for example, had money targeted for similar activities,” Barbee said.

Mori said he has been involved with archery since he was a youngster.  For additional information on the Fallon Bowmen or the tournament, contact Hunter, 775-225-9913; Gary, 775-217-2288, fallonbowmen01@gmail.com or www.fallonbowmen. com.
