CEDA business council breakfast April 25

Join the Churchill Entrepreneur Development Association for its business council breakfast at 7 a.m., on Thursday, April 25.

Attendees will meet the six candidates running for county commissioner of District 1 and 3. The event will be held at the Fallon Convention Center, 100 Campus Way.

Democratic Sawyer-Bryan annual dinner May 10

The Churchill County Democrats’ annual Sawyer-Bryan dinner and fundraiser will be held May 10 at the Fallon Convention Center.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Dinner will be catered by Wildhorse Cafe. The event will feature Nevada Assembly Speaker Steven Yeager, a raffle and silent auction.

Tickets are $50 each and may be purchased online at www.eventbrite.com, or by sending a check to Churchill County Democrats. They may also be purchased at the door by cash, check, or credit card.

CAPS garage sale April 26-27

CAPS garage sale will be held at the Oasis Community Church on Friday, April 26 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, April 27, 8 a.m. to noon.

Rotary Club

Rotary meets every Tuesday at noon at the Stockman’s Steakhouse. Each meeting usually has a speaker. Guests are welcome.

Join Rotary for Bingo Night on April 26 at the Pennington Life Center on 952 S. Maine St. Doors open at 5 p.m. with bingo play at 6 p.m. A $20 buy-in includes pack of five games of three bingo cards and a dauber. Additional game packs are $10 and there will be a 50/50 Raffle.

There will be multiple winners each game and winners may choose prizes from the gift table. Proceeds will benefit local youth scholarships and leadership programs.

Elks Lodge April meals

The Elks Fish Fry is April 19. Bar opens at 4:30 p.m., dinner at 5:30 p.m.

Proceeds from this dinner will be used to fix lighting issues inside the lodge.

Fire department street dance

On May 10 from 5-9 p.m. on Carson Street in front of the firehouse, the Fallon Churchill Volunteer Fire Department will be celebrating its third annual street dance.

This event is a way for the fire department to showcase goodwill and provide an evening of entertainment and games for all to enjoy.

Attendance to the event is free and the city of Fallon is donating all of the food and soda/water for the event. Highlights include fire truck rides, a federal fire smoke trailer demonstration, free ice cream, free tri-tip sandwiches and hot dogs, free soda or water, no host bar, disc jockey and dancing, raffle items and cornhole.

The fire department will be pre-selling raffle tickets for our general raffle on the night of the event. You do not need to be present to win. There will be tickets available at the firehouse, with all the members of the department and at select businesses in Fallon.

Greenwave Hall of Fame nominations

Nominations are now accepted until May 31 for the Greenwave Hall of Fame Class of 2024.

Categories include teams, athletes, coaches and supporters of Greenwave athletics.

A gathering of the present and former inductees, former athletes and the community is planned for Sept. 26 with the introduction of the Class of 2024 scheduled before kickoff of the varsity football game between Truckee and Fallon. The banquet is Sept. 28 at the Fallon Convention Center.

Nomination forms may be found at https://greenwavehof.com for the four categories. Any application received after May 31 will be considered for the following year.

Once the nominators complete the application packet, they should return it to the GHOF via email to greenwavehalloffame@gmail.com. If the nominators feel as though they need to mail the packet, they may do so before the deadline to the following address:

New museum hours

The Churchill County Museum is now open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays.

Pennington Life Center

Cards, crafts, exercise, games, dressing up for Mardi Gras, discussion on voting, welfare representative available to answer questions, Medicare representative and computer assistance are just a few of the activities and resources available at the Pennington Life Center in April.

Plenty of good eats at the Pennington Life Center: All are welcome to partake. Lunch served 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays. Cost is $6 for those under age 60 and a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and older.

Churchill County Library

Special events:

• Spice Club in April examines sumac. Pick up some at the library desk and share your culinary creations on social media and tag the library.

• Sen. Jacky Rosen’s office representative will be at the library April 18 at 1 p.m. for “office hours.”

• Reading with Rover also takes place April 18 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Children read books to dogs to improve their reading skills and confidence to a decidedly captive audience.

• The library has a seed library. Come and learn about saving seeds year after year from the folks at the Walker Basin Conservancy on April 19 at 1:30 p.m.

• Elementary Book Club meets April 26 in the Library Annex at 3 p.m. for those in grades 3 through 5. Reserve your book to take home at: bit.ly/CCLElementaryBookClub.

• Book discussion group for adults continues April 25 at 6 p.m. in the library annex. This month’s topic is “books about books.” Bring your favorite read on this topic to discuss and share with others. Light refreshments served.

Mother’s Day train rides

The V&T Railway Commission will host train rides over Mother’s Day weekend May 11-12.

Guests will rediscover Nevada’s rich history in mining and mills on the V&T Carson City-Virginia City route meandering through tunnels, canyons and mining towns aboard a restored 1914 Pullman coach led by a 1916 Baldwin 2-8-0 steam locomotive.

The all-day train excursion is narrated with historical facts and anecdotes. Departing from Carson City’s Eastgate Depot, the 24-mile round trip tour includes a 3.5-hour stopover in Virginia City, where guests can stroll the boardwalks and explore restaurants, shops, saloons, museums, mines and more.

Complimentary coffee, mimosas and pastries will be served. Additionally, each mom will receive a gift. Cost for adults (ages 16 and up) is $65, and children (ages 2-15) $45. Infants 24 months and under ride free when sitting on a parent's lap.

USDA funding

Funding is available from USDA Rural Development Nevada for nonprofits, tribes, colleges and universities to create revolving loan fund programs and support training and technical assistance for rural microentrepreneurs and microenterprises.
