The Fallon Theatre is entering a busy time of the year. We have several events scheduled this week beginning with a play performed by Churchill County Middle School. We have various private parties along with two new movies showing this weekend. We will be hosting a concert with the Great Basin Band this Saturday night.

Showing Friday and Saturday night at 6 p.m. is the movie “Kung Fu Panda” starring Jack Black as Po. Po is a rude and lazy panda bear who’s a fan of Kung Fu. Unexpectedly, Po is chosen to fulfill an ancient prophecy when he joins the world of Kung Fu and studies alongside his idols, the legendary Furious Five — under the leadership of their guru, Master Shifu. But before they know it, the vengeful and treacherous snow leopard Tai Lung is headed their way, and it's up to Po to defend everyone from the oncoming threat.

Can he turn his dreams of becoming a Kung Fu master into reality? Po, an unlikely hero, finds that his greatest weaknesses are his greatest strengths.

Free admission.

Showing Friday only at 7 p.m. is the movie “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.” An American musical released in 1954 stars Howard Keel and Jane Powell.

In the 1850s, lumberjack Adam Pontipee lives with his six brothers in a remote cabin in the Oregon woods. Intent on finding someone to do the housekeeping, he marries boardinghouse cook Milly. Once at the cabin, Milly begins civilizing the coarse Pontipees. The brothers go to a town dance and meet some local women but get into a brawl. Missing the women they met at the dance, Adam tells his brothers they should abduct the women and take them back to their cabin. They do, and a culture clash follows that provides the basis for laughs and extravagant musical numbers.

Admission is free.

The Fallon Theatre welcomes The Great Basin Band in concert on Saturday beginning at 7 p.m. If you enjoy hearing rock-n-roll hits from the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, and 2000s, come and see this band perform on our historic stage. The Great Basin Band is a local, Fallon favorite that includes Dineen Caseday on lead vocals, Larry Little on lead guitar and vocals, Jim Morgan on drums, Rich Grondin on bass and Daniel Tomb on keyboard and vocals.

Admission is free and donations are welcomed.
