Plans for new CAPS building on hold

Sweet is a gorgeous 3-year-old Husky mix with incredible blue eyes. Just like her name, she is a sweetheart. She is an active girl who enjoys running around, going for walks, and cuddling on the couch.

Dear reader, during a recent Churchill County budget workshop meeting, it was revealed that funds for the new CAPS building would not be available due to budget constraints. Mr. Barbee explained that the plans and designs are on hold indefinitely. In the meantime, they will have to look at other alternatives for the current location.

Although we are disappointed with this news, we will continue to deliver the same level of care to our guests that we always have. That said, we had been counting on the move to alleviate the problems we face with our shelter. Because we will not be getting a new building very soon, we will need to fix the issues that we hoped to escape.

The main problems include the well, boiler, floors, and general maintenance. As we have in the past, we are asking our community to help us. The most pressing needs are the well and boiler. If you have any experience in this area, we need your expertise, muscle and resources.

Thanks to Norma Klenakis, the Dirty Dozen, and our community we are just celebrating 38 years as a no-kill shelter. Please help us to continue helping abandoned and abused animals I have confidence that we can pull together to “pup grade” our shelter.

As always, any contribution is helpful and you can donate directly to CAPS on Facebook by just hitting the donate button. We also have a wish list at Chewy.com.

The adoption fees for our animals cover the wide range of care each animal receives. A veterinarian has examined each dog, puppy, cat, or kitty. All of our animals are healthy, vaccinated, spay/neutered, and microchipped. If you adopt an animal and it doesn’t work out, we will take him back. We will always be a safety net for animals adopted through CAPS.

This weekend only Bissell is sponsoring “Empty the Shelters” and you can adopt your BFF for $50. Come out and find the companion of a lifetime.

With your help, we will shore up our shelter and find homes for our guests.
