Carson Burlington Coat Factory to close April 19; Jersey Mike’s Subs renovations underway

Burlington Coat Factory in south Carson City is set to close doors April 19, a store spokesperson confirmed Monday. The person, who did not want to be publicly identified, told the Appeal the store’s 22 employees were given the option of transferring to the Reno or Sparks store or receiving a severance package.

Capital City Community Band’s Salute to Young Musicians

When you see young people performing with their musical instruments on stage along with their mentors, it makes one realize that there is a lot of good in this world and a great deal of sharing between older, experienced musicians and the younger people – our next generation. Sunday’s performance was a wonderful example of this giving back to the community at large by not only serving as role models but by helping to produce the next generation of creative, talented, outgoing instrumentalists.

Empire Elementary students perform on stage

A total of 33 third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students from Empire Elementary School performed a musical theater program for their peers during the school day and again in the evening for parents and families March 26. The production, titled "Character Matters," taught social and emotional learning based life lessons through the lens of fairytale characters trying to find their way.

Remedy Bar decision headed to Carson City Board of Supervisors

The Carson City Board of Supervisors could decide Thursday whether a drinking establishment with a problematic past will get a liquor license. Their meeting starts at 8:30 a.m. in the board room of the community center, 851 E. William Street.

Carson City School-Based Health Center open during spring break

The School-Based Health Center, operated in partnership between Nevada Health Centers and the Carson City School District, will be open normal hours during spring break. The School-Based Health Center is located at 612 W. Musser Street and is set back from the street just behind the Gleason School at 604 W. Musser.

Rotarians donate to Eagle Valley Middle School LEGO robotics team

Eagle Valley Middle School’s LEGO robotics team got a boost from the Rotary Club of Carson City recently. The team won the state championship and is the only team from Nevada to be invited to the World Festival in Houston. Rotary Club members donated $3,000 to help defray travel expenses.

Carson City Clerk-Recorder Scott Hoen is calling a lawsuit brought by the Republican Party against him and other Nevada defendants “unfortunate.” “It is unfortunate that the RNC used inaccurate data when filing the lawsuit,” he told the Appeal. “Carson City has a little over 85% of the possible adult population registered and is in direct conflict with their claims.”
