Margaret “Peg” Kehres
June 11, 1931 - May 31, 2023
Peg was born in New Brunswick, NJ to George and Regina Preacher. Peg, ahead of her time, attended Columbia University in NYC, obtaining a master’s degree in city Planning in 1953 and meeting her future husband, Dick.
They married and headed West to raise four children in Oakland, CA during the tumultuous 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s five miles from UCBerkeley.
Once her children were teens, Peg obtained a teaching credential and second master’s degree. She taught on Panther Hill, Oakland – and loved it. In the 80’s, Peg and Dick moved to Saudi Arabia where she taught, and they traveled extensively for ten years – moving to Nevada in 1990 where Dick designed, and they built their dream home in Carson City. Peg was passionate about music and served on the Reno Philharmonic and Carson City Symphony boards, attending every concert she could. She was a member of AAUW, Retired Teachers of Carson City, and Aramco group.
She enjoyed visiting Sitka, AK where she kayaked the inland passage staying at Alaskan wilderness cabins and continued to travel to Europe and throughout the lower 48.
To say that Peg led a full and interesting life would be an understatement. She lost her husband, Dick in 1998 and left this world to be reunited with him on their 70th wedding anniversary.
She was preceded in death by her son, Richard and is survived by her daughters, Lynn, Gale, and Dian as well as her six grandchildren, Michele, Patrick, Benjamin, George, Rebecca, and Teri.
We miss her deeply but know she is now a force to be reckoned with in heaven with her husband at her side.
