These headstones in the nearly-forgotten Empire Cemetery are just about all that remains of the once-prosperous community of Empire City, located east of Carson City.
In the late 1850s and 1860s, a seven-mile stretch of the river between Dayton and Carson City became a nearly continuous string of mining mills.
