The Tiger girls’ golf team won both events it participated in this week at Fallon and Lowry in Class 3A action. Monday, Douglas had a team score of 382, besting Lowry by 12 strokes. Giana Zinke led the Tigers as an individual with a 90 while Abiggail Detsch posted a 96. Abby Miller and Mackenzie Willis scored a 98 while Madison Frisby and Logan Karwoski entered the clubhouse with scores of 101 and 104, respectively. In Fallon the following day, the Tigers matched their first place performance with a team score of 382. Abby Miller led the way shooting an 87, finishing second as an individual. Willis shot a 95 while Zinke added a score of 99. Detsch and Frisby posted matching scores of 101 while Karwoski rounded out the results with a 113. Truckee was second in team scores with a 391. On Sept. 8, Douglas won its first event of the season at Elko by 17 strokes. Carson volleyball picks up first win The Senator volleyball team took down Reed by a 3-1 final Wednesday. Carson took the first two sets 25-21 and 25-16 before dropping the third, 25-18. It ultimately wouldn’t hurt the Senators, who finished off the fourth set by a 25-16 final. “It was going back to what had helped us win the first two games,” said head coach Brittany Witter. “The third game we didn’t run our offense enough.” The win is also Witter’s first as the Senators new head coach. Anna Turner had a team-high 13 kills in the win while Caydee Farnworth also had 13 digs. Senior Grace Turner added nine kills of her own. Carson High boys’ soccer ties Wooster in dramatic fashion It took until the 70th minute for Carson High boys soccer to get on the board against Wooster on Wednesday. Luis Carrillo deposited the first goal to bring the Senators within one in the game’s final minutes. After playing with 10 men due to a mistake by the center official, the Senators responded with an over-the-top ball to the feet of Emiliano Bravo. Senator girls’ soccer loses to Reed, Reno Carson High girls’ soccer hosted Reed for its first home game of the season Tuesday, falling 6-2. The two squads were tied 0-0 at halftime before the scoring floodgates opened. At Reno on Wednesday it was a different story as the Senators fell 1-0. UP NEXT: Carson (1-4) hosts Bishop Manogue (2-2-1) Tuesday at home at 6:45 p.m. Douglas volleyball escapes Spanish Springs It took five sets Thursday night, but Douglas High volleyball won its third straight contest after escaping a five-set thriller on its home floor. The Tigers got an added boost from their bench after dropping the third set and falling behind 2-1. Douglas took the final two sets 25-16 and 15-11 to move to 8-3 this season. “Energy was a big part; our bench really helped us out,” said senior captain Riley Mello. Mello had seven kills in the fourth set alone before finishing with a team-high 14 putaways. Marin Collins had 12 kills of her own while Sofia Kolbe posted 10. Mia Bertolone added 23 assists for the Tigers in the win.
