Play It Again Sports, which specializes in slightly used sporting goods, has expanded at its Highway 50 East location.

Owners Joe and Tami Stein said demand for exercise machines, golf equipment, inline roller skates and hockey paraphernalia has been good since they opened next to Albertson's two years ago.

The original 2,700-square-foot store expanded to 4,000 when the Steins leased and remodeled a neighboring space that used to house a pet store, Something Fishy.

"Treadmills are about our hottest items," Joe said. "With exercise equipment, lots of times people buy it and decide it's not right for them so it's hardly used."

He said Play It Again tries to sell used equipment for about half the original price.

The store also has a selection of new items.

Besides the items the Steins buy used and clean up before resale, Play It Again accepts some items on consignment.

Other sports equipment in demand is for hockey, for winter sports like skiing and snow boarding and for baseball and softball.

"We do get lots of calls for people looking for strange things, like a tightrope walker's balance pole or for pogo sticks - I didn't even know they still made those," Joe said.

"Over the past few years, we've learned what does and doesn't move. We tried wind surfers at first, but they took too much space. And we've had lots of calls for kayaks, but people who have them don't usually sell them."
