SPARKS - The Carson Cardinals saw their three-game roll come to an end at the Silver State Shootout baseball tournament Sunday morning when they dropped an 8-3 verdict to the Modesto Fury in the semifinals of the 12-team high school age tournament.

Carl Winter hit 2-for-3, including a two-run single in the sixth inning, and Jon Teeter also delivered two hits for the Cardinals.

Levi Diaz pitched the seven-inning distance for the Cardinals, allowing 12 hits.

Carson was aided by the defensive play of Ryan Gonzales, who caught a half dozen fly balls in center field.
