Carson High School girls basketball fans grew accustomed to watching Alyson Thurman rack up points over the past four years. This past weekend, Lassen Community College fans saw more of the same in their first look at Thurman during the Lassen tournament in Sparks.

Thurman received the tournament's MVP award Sunday after her 22-point performance helped the Lassen Cougars defeat Merritt 77-60 in the championship game at Reed High School.

Thurman, a four-year starter at Carson who graduated back in June, scored 43 points in three games for the Cougars. The 6-foot Thurman had 13 points in Lassen's 83-58 opening round triumph against Monterey Peninsula on Friday and she had eight points in an 86-62 semifinal win over Modesto on Saturday.

Thurman wasn't the only Carson Country area product to contribute for the Cougars, either. Fernley High graduate Jamie Wagner scored 16 points in Lassen's first-round win and 13 points in the semifinals. Jennifer Dillie, a 2000 graduate of Dayton High, also scored 13 points in the three games combined.
