An expert on the California Trail will speak at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Nevada State Museum on the gold rush-era trail that brought migrants from the Midwest to Sacramento.

The California Trail's main route passed through what now are Reno and the Donner Summit, but a spur went near Carson City on the way over Carson Pass.

Gregory Franzwa will present his slide show "Covered Wagon Trail to California" in a free lecture at the museum. Enter to the museum is at the Loftin Park entrance on the museum's north side.

Franzwa founded the Oregon-California Trails Association and the Lincoln Highway Association. He is author of "The Oregon Trail Revisited," "Maps of the Oregon Trail" and the newly released "Maps of the California Trail." All three books will available at the lecture.

Call Bob Nylen at the museum at 687-4811, ext. 239.
