Savor the quiet of the early morning on Saturday with a "Discovering Feathered Friends" birding walk around Hope Valley, Calif.

The walk is being offered by Sorensen's Resort.

That year-round resort is located at the north edge of Hope Valley, about 35 miles south of Carson City, via U.S. 395, Nevada S.R. 88 and California S.R. 88.

Join lifetime birder and naturalist Chuck Campbell as he explores the local meadows and upland reaches of that area.

Learn how our local bird species adapt to life in this region.

The birding will begin at 8 a.m., followed by a hearty brunch and discussion back at Sorensen's.

Hiking boots and layered clothing are a must for the chilly mountain mornings.

Bring binoculars, a small note pad and pencil.

Cost is $25 per person for Sorensen's guests or $40 for non-guests and it includes a brunch.

For registration or information, call Sorensen's resort at (800) 423-9949.
