The Bureau of Land Management has canceled the Ely public meeting on the Great Basin Restoration Initiative and substituted one in Winnemucca.

The Elko and Reno meetings remain unchanged. The three meetings are July 17, 6:30 p.m. at the BLM Elko Field Office; July 18, 6:30 p.m. at the BLM Winnemucca Field Office and July 19, 6:30 p.m., at the BLM Nevada State office in Reno.

The purpose of the meetings is to solicit public comment on how the BLM and partner agencies and groups should proceed toward developing and implementing actions to:

-Restore some areas of high resource value.

- Reduce affects to other areas from annual grass and noxious weed invasion.

- Reverse the destructive cycle of wildland fires and weeds.

The intent of the initiative is to increase the ecosystem stability of the Great Basin and focus on those areas with the most critical resource values and the highest potential for success through a common approach.

Most of the agenda will be devoted to a discussion among participants about what kinds of actions should be taken and in what order they should occur.
