Letter: Anti-gun rhetoric hiding behind spoof

To Jeff Ackerman: I just finished reading your Tuesday column where you bemoan your inability to enter your local library sans firearms. It was a fine example of parody; unfortunately, this humor was found in the editorial section rather than on the comic pages where it would have found a more appropriate venue.

When you hide your Second Amendment attacks on the top of the editorial section, it gives them the appearance that the logic and views offered are legitimate. But that is all it is, appearance.

I find it a little hard to understand why your anti-gun rhetoric, which you hide behind the tattered shield of spoof, is touted across four columns with a snappy headline. If I, or another lowly nonjournalist speak our mind in a pro gun fashion, it is given a nice quiet spot at the bottom of the page in nice small print. That is if it even makes it to press.

Why is that? You have no problem allowing Susan Paslov the advantage of the bully pulpit touted by larger font headlines yet I seldom see an opposing view point given such prominent position.

If you give major coverage to your anti gun platform then you must give equal access to those who have a firm commitment to all of the Bill of Rights, not just the popular ones.
