Accountability, (being responsible) this is a word we seldom hear or see in our community but it is one of the most important items that candidate Richard Staub has campaigned on. He believes that ALL city and county departments, must be made accountable for spending.

He has been a successful businessman in this area for years, I emphasize successful, and he knows the importance of a tight budget. I myself want the most competent person to have a vote on what my tax dollars are used for. We need tight, tight budgets in all departments and we need them now, not in four or eight years but right now.

Mr. Staub is not a yes man to any person or group. He is his own man. He is an upstanding member of this community.

He and his wife are raising two children and he knows that all decisions will someday affect his children, so he is not prone to rash decisions. Another important thing about Mr. Staub is that he knows the law. He knows what the board of supervisors can and can not do legally.

No back door policies for Mr. Staub, he is a straight shooter and everything is up front with him.

There are some who think endorsements are important and they decide to vote by these endorsements, well, they are not that important. As an example the newspaper endorses a person or a bill and it is a form of free advertisement.

How many employees at the paper decided on who or what they endorse. Is it five to six editors or is it the whole staff?

They do not tell you how many people actually decided. Organizations also endorse people and are we talking five,10,15 people or what? Endorsements are not always that important, as we have seen in other elections.

The newspaper endorsed Mr. Horton for Ward 4 supervisor and they said it's because he has some good ideas and a vision for Carson City's future and has served on several committees. Mr. Thomas decided to endorse Mr. Horton because he has served on committees, this is a lame reason, anyone can serve on a committee, I have served on committees but it doesn't make me qualified to run for supervisor.

I have a vision and so do 48,000 other people out there. Serving on committees and having visions does not make us qualified. We don't have to belong to committees to have good ideas and be good workers. Some committees just sit and talk and get nothing accomplished. We have too much of that now.

What I'm getting at is, you should vote for someone you feel can do the best job for Carson City.
