Letter: Open Space tax worth a yes vote

I have never voted yes for any bill that would increase my taxes, etc. However, I am voting yes on the Open Space Tax. I feel that question No. 1 is a start in the right direction to preserve open space.

I am not a rancher or ag person unless my two tomato plants in flowerpots put me in that category. However, I would prefer to support these folks who spend many hours a day working the fields, etc. in order to make sure my great grandchildren will have real food to enjoy. The thought of having a pill that will replace prime rib with horseradish sauce, another pill that will replace a baked potato filled with sour cream, to have the juice of a fresh peach in a pill just does not appeal to me.

I have observed more construction of office space, etc. in Douglas County during the past two years and observed even more "For Rent" signs on the growing number of vacant office space, etc. The time to stop the waste of "growing" or open space land is now, not after it is paved over with even more vacant buildings.
