An accident at the Nevada and Long streets Monday afternoon sent two men to Carson-Tahoe Hospital with minor injuries.
The accident occurred when driver Phil Wooley ran a stop sign while traveling north on Nevada Street. A white Toyota Landcruiser, occupied by the two injured men, struck the side of Wooley's blue Jeep Cherokee when Wooley crossed the intersection.
The force of the impact sent Wooley's Jeep into a street sign, which was knocked into a yard on the corner. The men were taken to the hospital after talking to paramedics at the scene.
"The stop sign stopped me when my brakes went out after the crash," Wooley joked. "I didn't stop at the stop sign. That was the problem."
Both sport utility vehicles had to be towed from the accident scene. Wooley was given an $80 citation for failing to yield.
Kay Etchart lives two doors from the intersection. She said accidents are common at the intersection, occurring on an almost monthly basis.
"I've lived here for 40 years and there are accidents here all the time," she said. "People are always running that stop sign."
The men, whose names weren't available, were treated and released after receiving hospital X-rays.
