Last Saturday, Don Quilici, outdoor editor for the Nevada Appeal, and Bud Higgins of Douglas County caught and released more than 15 Lahontan cutthroat trout at Walker Lake.

Quilici's five largest trout were a 7.73 pounder, a 6.82 pounder and three others at about four pounds each. Those five trout weighed more than 26 pounds!

The two fishermen trolled with downriggers at a depth of 40 feet in water that was 80 feet deep in front of "The Cliffs."

They were trolling with silver-colored, U-20 Flatfish lures behind silver colored, Ford Fender, flasher blades.

All of the trout were caught between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

At 1 p.m., a very strong wind came up and blew all of the boats off the lake.

One car-top boat was swamped at the boat ramp by the large waves.
