A habitual drunk driver will serve at least one year in state prison following a guilty plea this week to two counts of drunken driving.

Hal Hamlett, 25, of Carson City, was previously convicted of driving drunk in 1995 and 1997. The most recent incidents took place in June and October of last year. Both offenses were tried together.

Hamlett has also been convicted of numerous alcohol-related crimes in Carson City.

Conviction on a third DUI in five years mandates a minimum one-year sentence in the Nevada prison system.

Hamlett will be sentenced in February.
