Curious electrical phenomenon has existed for several days at Valley View Station, about 12 miles from Carson on the Bodie Road. It was first observed when E.J. Curtis, proprietor, attempted to put wood in the stove and received a severe electric shock from the lifter. Finally, Mr. Curtis encased his hands in sheepskin gloves, a non-conductor, to remove the pots and pans. Theory is the electricity was generated by a windmill connected by a wire to the stove pipe and was worse during winds.

Eugene Shiefeld devotes a great deal of time to gathering butterflies and moths in Elko County, in the Ruby Valley, near the Woodhouse Ranch. He arrived in Elko recently with his collection, says the Free Press, and they are beautiful in design and color.

50 YEARS AGO

Foul play was ruled in the death of Colveille, Calif. school teacher Miss Myra Bouye, who taught there for five years. She was found at home without a cerebral fracture. She was more 70 years than the 50 claimed and weighed about 85 pounds at five feet tall.

20 YEARS AGO

Faced with effectiveness hampered by administrative and public relations problems, the Comstock Historic District agrees to fall back and search for a fresh start.
