Carson City physician Ed Pierczynski will cook today at one of the biggest International Chili Society chili cookoffs of the year in Washington, D.C.

The annual cookoff benefits the National Kidney Foundation and has raised more than $500,000 for the organization. This is its second largest fundraiser of the year.

"This is my first time cooking in this event and I'm looking forward to it," said Pierczynski, who is probably better known as Dr. Chili.

"It will be a tough cookoff to win. There will be 80 or 90 of the top chili cooks in the world competing at the cookoff."

The winner is automatically entered in the ICS world championships that takes place the second weekend of October in Las Vegas.

The Carson City Invitational chili cookoff that took place last Saturday in Carson City can be seen tonight on Carson Access television channel 10 at 8 p.m.
