Today will be one of the few chances to take a guided tour of Carson City's historic district.

The Wild West Tour is one of only two guided tours through the city's west side, according to Candy Duncan of the Carson City Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

"There are only two opportunities to have a guided tour of the historic district, this one and the Ghost Walk," she said of the tour, which is in its seventh year.

Costumed guides will guide walkers along old Carson City.

"Along the way, Mark Twain and Abe Lincoln will speak," she said. "There are a lot of performances and historic portrayals along the way."

The tour takes about 90 minutes and there will be an alternative to walking.

At least one of the tours will be on Del Tanner's Hoofbeats Wagon.

Duncan said the wagon holds about 20 people and will leave when all the seats are filled.

"This is new," she said. "We want to make sure we have a full wagon before we head out. It will be good for people who can't walk it."

Walking tours begin at 10:30 a.m. from Telegraph Square at the intersection of Telegraph and Curry streets.

Duncan said the walk is all on level ground and is not very long.

"But it is going to be warm, so be sure to wear your sunscreen," she said.

The cost of the walking tour is $5 for adults and $4 for children and seniors.

The wagon ride will be $10 for adults and $9 for children and seniors.

In addition to the tour, walkers will also receive a map.

Sponsored by the Carson City Convention & Visitors Bureau and Carson City Redevelopment, the Wild West Tour kicks off the season for the Kit Carson Trail, a walking tour of Carson City's historic district.
