The Carson High School boys basketball team nearly picked up its first win in the prestigious Yuba City Tournament, but the Senators fell to St. Mary's of Stockton, Calif., 60-51.

The loss was Carson's third in a row and dropped the team's record to 3-3.

Carson trailed just 39-37 after three quarters, but St. Mary's continued to lengthen its lead in the fourth.

"It was a very physical game - they don't call many fouls here," said Carson coach Tom Andreasen, whose team will finish out its tournament play today at 2 p.m. in the seventh-place game against Yuba City. "St. Mary's was a very good team and I'm proud of our players in the fact that they hung in there against a talented team.

"We knew coming down here, we'd have to be lucky to win some games because the tournament field is so loaded."

Vin Reymus and Cody Longero each scored 15 points to lead Carson's scoring. Reymus had three 3-pointers. Lee Biddlecome added eight points for the Senators.

Andreasen said both Biddlecome and Matt Leck did a good job of pounding the boards for the Senators during the game.

The final four teams competing for the Yuba City Championship are: Upland (Calif.), Bellarmine Prep (San Jose, Calif.), Will C. Wood, and Berkeley High. Wood was the school Carson lost to on Thursday night in the opening round of the tourney.
