Letter: guilt

Ms. Farmer's article stimulated many memories for me. Both my father and my husband are veterans and the guilt that they felt is because they went against God's law for Christians, typified in Romans 12 "Vengeance is mine (God's); I will repay."

If your enemy is hungry, feed him, and especially, do not let yourself be conquered by the evil but keep conquering the evil with good. That is a Christian's true mission, to conquer evil with good, and let God work out his purpose of ridding mankind of those who do evil (Re. 19:11-21). True forgiveness from God comes as a result of our confession of sin and a sincere desire to not repeat it.

Guilt cannot be comforted away, it takes work, and God will fight the ultimate Just War. CATHY PADILLA
