Letter: Senior Frolics both patriotic, entertaining

Flag Day, June 14, was just another day here in Carson City. It did make me think of the Senior Frolics - 2000, the Fabulous '40s, and a Salute to the Armed Forces show, May 25 and 27 at the Community Center. What a great show.

The audience thoroughly enjoyed the cast of around 75 talented senior citizens. The jitterbugging seniors, singers, dancers and comedy routines were all outstanding. The "Rum and Coca Cola" song and dance number could be the envy of any Vegas act. Master of ceremonies, Tom Baker, offered sincere apologies to the "real" Andrew Sisters, as the screamingly-funny trio of Bob Crowder, Frank Taylor and Jon Shambaugh lip-synced "I'll Be With You in Apple Blossom Time."

The great music of the 12-piece Sierra Swing Band brought back memories, some good, some sad, but it reminded us all of our pride in our flag and country. As I was proud of our Armed Forces in the '40s, I also puffed in pride when the veterans were asked to remain standing, as did my husband, Al; friend, Barbara Cooper, and so many of our friends from the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, following the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

The staging was professional and inspirational. The spotlight centering the large open flag against the black curtain as John Wayne's voice related of "Why He Loved Her" was awe-inspiring. No one can imagine the amount of time, thought and effort that went into producing that show. The proceeds will benefit the youth of the Boys and Girls Club through the Community Outreach Program.
