COLUMBUS, N.M. - A pair of Lordsburg men were arrested Tuesday morning near the U.S.-Mexico border in connection with last month's bludgeoning death of a California trucker.

Lorenzo Mora, 18, and Joseph McDonald, 22, are charged with an open count of murder, Assistant District Attorney Daniel Viramontes said in Deming.

The defendants, arrested in the border town of Columbus, are accused in the beating death of 39-year-old trucker Richard Baldenegro of Calimesa, Calif. The victim was found dead at a residence on the Duncan Highway in Hidaldo County on Sept. 25.

Viramontes said Baldenegro apparently died of a blow to the head with a blunt object, and both defendants are also charged with aggravated battery.
