LAS VEGAS - Micah Whitcome and Joe Neiman of Carson City returned home as medal winners from the inaugural Nevada state Junior High School Wrestling Tournament held this past Saturday.


Whitcome, an Eagle Valley Middle School 7th grader, captured a gold medal in his 120-pound weight class and Neiman, a Carson Middle School 7th grader, placed second in the 90-pound division during competition held at Cimarron-Memorial High School.


The tournament was open to 5th through 8th graders from throughout Nevada.


Whitcome, a two-time Tah-Neva League champion, won his championship match with a third-round pin to improve his season record to 64-1.


Neiman, also a Tah-Neva League champion this season, improved his record to 17-5 with his second-place finish.
