Obitary: E. Evelyn Gerow

E. Evelyn Gerow, 88, a Carson City resident since 1972, died May 27, 2000, a Carson-Tahoe Hospital. She was born Jan. 10, 1911, in Oakland, Calif., to George Molineux and Edythe Mayes.

Before moving to Carson City, she lived in Reno for two years and Las Vegas for 10 years.

Mrs. Gerow served seven years on the Nevada State Tax Commission. She was appointed by Gov. Michael O' Callaghan.

Mrs. Gerow also owned and operated a local telephone company, Yerington Electric Co., for 15 years.

She was a member of Naomi Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Yerington, charter member of the Yerington chapter of P.E.O., life member of the Nevada Telephone Association and life member of the Independent Telephone Pioneers Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Gerow, in 1986.

Among her survivors are two daughters, Vicki Henry of Bellevue, Wash, and Constance Hinshaw of Sacramento; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

There will be a viewing from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City. Inurnment will be at the Masonic Cemetery in Reno.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
