Obituary: Hilde I. Peabody

A memorial service for Hilde I. Peabody, 83, a Dayton resident for the past 10 years, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, at FitzHenry's Funeral Home.

Mrs. Peabody died Oct. 3, 1999, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. She was born Sept. 16, 1916, in Berlin, Germany, to Emil and Johanna Emila Franke Kuttner.

She was married to Heinrich Pecher of Austria from 1939 until his death in 1944. In 1948, she moved to Yeadon, Pa., and married Donald C. Peabody.

Before moving to Dayton, she lived in South Lake Tahoe.

Mrs. Peabody worked for the F.W. Woolworth Company for 37 years, first in Philadelphia and then in Santa Monica, Calif. She was an active volunteer for the Dayton Friends of the Library and the Dayton Historical Society. During her retirement years, she enjoyed working in her garden, visiting with family and friends, discussing current events and reading books sent to her from Germany.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Ursel Wilhelmi.

Among her survivors are her husband, Donald, of Dayton; daughters, Rennie Fenwick, of Lake Worth, Fla., and Rebecca Ward, of Stagecoach; grandsons, Robert B. Fenwick, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Michael P. Fenwick, of Plattsburg, N.Y.; and many relatives still living in Germany.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
