Q-Tip: Hunt information

According to a recent press release from the Nevada Division of Wildlife, that state agency has developed a package of information for hunters to use in planning this year's big game hunts.

Hunter information sheets, which provide data on the topography of most Nevada big game management units, the maps that are needed and where those maps can be purchased, general hunt information, harvest statistics and drawing odds for each hunt are now available at NDOW regional offices, statewide, and on the agency's web site. That NDOW web site is www.state.nv.us/cnr/nvwildlife.

On the web site, a new information area called "Hunt Nevada 2000" provides harvest statistics and tag drawing odds for all big game species and the various weapons classes, hunter information sheets for most big game unit areas and general information on impacts caused by last year's wild fires,. This information is listed by big game management units, with a helpful regional map.

The Nevada 2000 Big Game Seasons and Application Regulations brochure, as well as tag applications, are also available on that web site.

However, be advised that hunters who applied for tags last year should use the tag application forms mailed to them, NOT the web site applications.

The reason for that particular request is that the mailed applications include important bar-coded information that speeds up the application process.

It also reduces application errors that may cause rejections.

This year's deadline for receiving big game hunting applications is 5 p.m. on Monday.

Those applications must be sent through an authorized postal service system, such as the U.S. Mail, FedEx, U.P.S., etc.

They must be sent to the Hunt Application Office, P.O. Box 1345, Fallon Nevada 89407-1345.
