RENO - Federal Judge Johnnie Rawlinson of Las Vegas will have to wait a little longer for a hearing on her nomination to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

A hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee had been scheduled for Wednesday in Washington, D.C.

But Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., said the hearing was canceled at the last minute when the committee could not find a majority member to act as chairman.

A new date for the hearing was not immediately set, Reid said.

Reid recommended Rawlinson for the appeal's court in December.

As the senior Democrat in Nevada's congressional delegation, Reid has the privilege of recommending federal judicial candidates while a Democrat occupies the White House.

Rawlinson has been a federal judge in Las Vegas since 1998.

She is the first black woman in Nevada history to hold a position on the U.S. District Court bench.
