Reid announces $16.8 million for state

WASHINGTON - Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., this week announced that Nevada programs will get $16.8 million under the year 2000 VA/HUD appropriations bill.

Reid, who is assistant minority leader in the U.S. Senate, said a total of $10 million will pay for local water quality initiatives and for efforts to protect groundwater in Nevada.

Another $2.3 million will expand the Moapa Valley wastewater treatment plant.

Reid said more money will fund added equipment at the University of Nevada Reno seismic center, which is engaged in earthquake research.

And he said $2.3 million will go to the Rural Community Assistance Program, a non-profit group which assists communities of less than 10,000 address drinking water quality, waste treatment and other such issues.

Reid said the measure has now passed both the House and Senate and is in conference to work out the differences between the two versions.
