Reid expected to be leader on environment

I was stunned to see geothermal development being considered in an area as spectacular as the Black Rock/High Rock area (Geothermal backers opposed plan April 9). I voted for Harry Reid in 1998 because I expected him to be an environmental leader. Sen. Richard Bryan's effort to preserve the area as a Natural Conservation Area will protect the historical and wilderness values of the region. It deserves Sen. Reid's full support, including immediate co-sponsorship of the bill. Anything less will betray the environmental community that worked so hard to give him his narrow margin of victory in 1998.
