Since 1972, the Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Awards program has aided women who as head of their households must enter the work force or upgrade their employment status.

The Soroptimist organization will provide a $1,000 cash grant to an award winner, enabling her to offset costs associated with efforts to attain higher education or additional skills and training or for books, child care and carfare.

The winner will then advance to the Soroptimist regional level where two $3,000 and one $5,000 winners will be selected. The program culminates with a $10,000 finalist award.
