Sthelter shouldn't be allowed to close

I was very concerned when I read the Feb. 27 issue of the Nevada Appeal stating that the only homeless shelter for women and children in Reno was closed due to lack of funds.

As we know, one of the main reasons women and children are left homeless is a result of abuse and the gambling habit of many people in this state.

Being a child of a compulsive gambler and left at times with nowhere to live and many times not having food, I am touched by this closure. With the many casinos and clubs in the Reno area, there should be no reason that they cannot donate the funds to keep this shelter open especially when they are part of the cause of these people finding themselves in these circumstances.
