RENO - Two people died Friday in separate traffic accidents on northern Nevada roadways.

The first crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. Reno police said the driver of a pickup truck was northbound on Wells Avenue when he swerved off the road and hit a metal pole near East Ninth Street.

The lone occupant of the vehicle was taken to Washoe Medical Center, where he later died.

The man's name was not immediately released.

A 62-year-old Yerington man was killed at Holbrook Junction in southern Douglas County around 7 a.m. when he reportedly pulled out in front of a big-rig truck.

Errol W. Lampkin was driving a 1991 Mazda pickup truck and entered the intersection from sate Highway 208, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The NHP said preliminary investigation showed Lampkin pulled out onto U.S. 395 in front of a northbound, 1994 Peterbilt tractor-trailer.

Lampkin was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver, Duane Guillot, of Independence, La., was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

A third vehicle was hit by flying debris. That driver also suffered minor injuries.
