Three separate accidents Thursday morning on Highway 395 near Stephanie Way sent two injured drivers to Washoe Medical Center by CareFlight helicopter.
The first accident, reported at 9:28 a.m., had one overturned vehicle but no injuries.
Shortly after accident crews from Douglas County, Carson City and Jacks Valley arrived at the scene and closed northbound lanes, two more cars collided and a third spun off the road.
According to a Nevada Highway Patrol spokeswoman, the three-car accident occurred when Jean Cox, 46, of Gardnerville, who was northbound on Highway 395 in a 1992 Oldsmobile, collided with a 1993 Buick driven by Dana Murphy, 52, of Minden.
The driver of a third vehicle, a 1994 Nissan, who drove off the road was not hurt.
Cox and Murphy were extracted and transported in the helicopter.
As of Thursday night, Cox was admitted for observation at the Reno medical center. Murphy was treated and released.
A third accident occurred at 9:52 a.m. when 18-year-old Dustin Patterson hit a fence. Patterson was not hurt in the accident.
Southbound lanes were also closed between 10:25 a.m. and 10:43 a.m., with the highway completely reopened at 11:53 a.m.
A fourth accident on Highway 395 took a life at Holbrook Junction, near the intersection with Highway 208 at about 7 p.m. Thursday.
One person was reported not breathing shortly after the collision between a semi-tractor trailer rig and a pickup.
Units from Topaz Ranch Estate, the Gardnerville Ranchos and Topaz Lake responded to the accident, which required that the occupant of the pickup be cut out of the vehicle.
The driver of the pickup died as a result of the accident. The driver of the semi reported neck pain.
