More than 100 runners and walkers will be out pounding the pavement in Carson City this morning when the fourth annual Jester's Jog is held.

The event, a 10-K run and 2-mile run/walk, begins at 9 a.m. from the Pinon Plaza. A quarter-mile children's (6-and-under) fun run will be held at 8:45.

The 10-K and 2-mile courses, both being used for the first time, will start from Pinon Plaza and turn around on Saliman Road.

Last year's race attracted 64 participants on a chilly, windy and snowy day. Today's total is expected to be considerably larger.

"We've had 110 sign up already, which is great for this time of year, especially when you consider the weather we had last year," said race director Tim Tetz of Fleet Feet Sports.

Proceeds go to the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada.

"They've already doubled their proceeds from years past even before we start out," Tetz said. "We had 15 or 16 people and businesses donated between $100 and $500, and that means all the money from the entries will go directly to the Children's Museum."

Race day entry fees are $25. All registered runners will receive a race shirt.

Age divisions for the runs will be: 10 and under; 11-15; 16-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; and 70 and over. There are no age divisions for the 2-mile walk.

Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age division in the 10K and 2-mile runs and to the top three overall male and female finishers in the 2-mile walk. All children's run participants will receive an award.
