Heavenly dummy race is today

Heavenly Ski Resort will stage its annual Dummy Gelande race today at the base of the World Cup run on the California side starting at 2 p.m.

The race pits homemade contraptions racing down the hill on skis or snowboards. Race participants must be able to pull the dummy at least 50 feet unaided.

Judging begins at 2 p.m. with prizes awarded for appearance, creativity, workmanship, originality and crowd enjoyment. The race starts at 5 p.m. with prizes going to dummies which fly highest and farthest. Details, (775) 586-7000.
