Justin Barber of the Carson Tigersharks nearly qualified for the U.S. National Championships on the final day of the U.S. Open in Minneapolis.

Swimming in the 400-meter individual medley time trial, Barber swam to a personal beste of four minutes, 33.75 seconds, but narrowly missed the national qualifying time of 4:33.49.

It was a tough day for Lauren Costella for the Tigersharks, who had a "tremendously bad start" in the 200 butterfly and settled for qualifying 24th for the finals in 2:22.66.

Costella then false started in the 800 freestyle and was disaqualified. If Costella had not be disqualified, she would have placed 12th in 8:59.35.

A half hour after the 800 free, Costella swam in the 200 fly finals and moved up to 22nd, finishing in 2:23.62. Also for the Tigersharks, Tara Theilemann swam close to her personal best in the 100 free, finishing in 1:00.55.

The Tigersharks will host the Pacific Senior Swimming Championships Dec. 13-16.
