Special Sheriff's team responds to South Carson neighborhood

Residents in South Carson near Sonoma Park were surprised to see a group of men in black armored vests, helmets and boots enter a home on Dilday Drive on Friday.

It was the Carson City Sheriff's Department Special Operations Team or S.O.R.T., responding to a call of a man blockaded in a home.

"It was a secure situation," said neighbor Brad Michaels. "There was about 40 or 50 neighbors there but they wouldn't let us get close enough to see what they were doing."

A Carson Sheriff's deputy had responded to a call of a court order violation in progress at 9:40 a.m. According to police reports, the suspect, Darryl C. Parker, had entered through a back window. The deputy found a back window with the screen removed and fresh footprints on the ground in front of it. All doors were locked. The deputy advised his supervisor and the S.O.R.T. team was called in.

The team made entry into the home and located the Parker in a bedroom closet. He was arrested without incident. The 36-year-old carpenter from Carson City was being held in the Carson City Jail on suspicion of violation of a domestic violence protection order.

"They were there about a half an hour then all of a sudden they just packed up and left," Michaels said.

Inside the home, officers found the front door had been barricaded with a chair under the door knob.

Parker said he did not put the chair in front of the door, and that he had a key to get into the house.

Officers later contacted the victim, who had left to visit the doctor with her son. She stated that she had not put the chair in front of the door. She also said that Parker could have found they key he had on the table.

Justice of the Peace John Tatro set Parker's bail at $30,000.
