A funeral Mass for Joseph Ray Sheeks, Sr., 64, a Carson City resident for the past 28 years, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at FitzHenry's with a Rosary at 7 p.m.

Mr. Sheeks died Feb. 9, 2002, at Washoe Medical Center. He was born July 25, 1937, in Neelyville, Mo., to Elmer I. and Vergie E. Dollins Sheeks.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Los Angeles.

He married Carolyn Sue Reed on April 22, 1956, in El Monte, Calif.

Mr. Sheeks was an insulation contractor in Carson City for 10 years. He owned a furniture store in Cypress, Calif., for two years and owned a mattress factory in Torrance, Calif., for eight years. He was also a maintenance worker for the Carson City Library. He loved camping, hunting, shooting pool and going on cruises. He was a Roman Catholic.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Junior, Harold, George E., James E., Freddie L. and Leon and sisters Virgene E. Bell and Connie Sheeks.

Among his survivors are his wife Carolyn of Carson City; daughters Cheryl Sue Christensen of Reno and Cindy Ann Sanchez of Carson City; son Joseph Ray Jr. of Carson City; brother Douglas M. of O-Fallon, Mo., and 15 grandchildren.

Burial will be at the Genoa Cemetery, Genoa.
