Carson City will be chock full of chocolate Saturday when the Capital Branch of the American Association of University Women hosts the third annual Feast of Chocolate.

The feast, at the Nevada State Library and Archives, is the main fund-raiser for the organization's scholarships.

Past president Jeanne Mascsak said last year's event raised $1,400 toward three scholarships given out by the organization.

"We had trouble getting people to leave when we were done," she said. "We're going to have a full buffet of delectable chocolate treats donated."

The Feast of Chocolate is one of two major fund-raisers the university women hold during the year.

"Our members bring chocolate, too," she said. "It's a lot of fun. People had a good time last year."

Mascsak has been with the University Women for four years. She said the money raised at the event will benefit people in Carson City, Gardnerville and Dayton.

The organization is open to anyone with a four-year degree, though as the name implies, its 40 local members tend to be female.

"We have one male member," she said. "We have six student affiliate members, so if you are on your way to obtaining a degree you can also be a member."

Businesses which have donated chocolate or support to the feast include the Carson Valley Inn, the Carson Nugget, Comstock Distributing, Heiss' House of Steak, Adele's, New Life Bakery, Long's Drug Store, Albertson's, Applebee's, City Cafe Bakery, and Smith's.

Airgas is donating the helium for balloons the group uses to advertise the event.

"We surround the block with balloons, so you can find your way to the feast," Mascsak said.

Tickets are available at the door or from a member. Tickets are $5 each for all the chocolate a person can eat.
