The Dayton and Fernley boys basketball team will play each other for the right to advance to the NIAA/U.S. Bank 3A State Championships.

Dayton and Fernley will play in the Northern 3A third place game at noon at Lowry. The winner will advance to the state tournament while the season will end for the loser.

In Friday's semifinals, Fernley's comeback for an upset against two-time defending state champion Manogue fell just short in a 56-54 loss while Dayton lost to Lowry 68-39.

Fernley trailed Manogue 31-18 at halftime, but hit 10-of-12 free throws in the fourth quarter to make the game close. The Vaqueros had only three field goals in the fourth quarter and they were all three-pointers.

Manogue led 56-51 with four seconds left when it called timeout. Fernley's Adam Schwab hit a three at the buzzer for the final margin.

Schwab scored 16 points and Matt Lambeth added 15 points for Fernley.

Lowry outscored Dayton 19-4 in the second quarter to take a 34-14 halftime lead. Joel Kiraly and J.C. Harris each scored eight points, Brian Lahmann had seven points and Jake Deen and Nick McQueen each scored five points for the Dust Devils.

In girls action, Yerington lost to Spring Creek and must also win in today's third place game to advance to the state tournament.
